How do you pick the right real estate agent?

Choosing the right agent can feel overwhelming especially when there are somewhere near 1,000 of us just in Lincoln, NE. I get it! I'm not just a real estate agent, I am also a REALTOR®. We are held to high standards of fiduciary duties representing our clients and follow a strict code of ethics. We take annual training courses to continue growing our knowledge and to become better Realtors. I care deeply for my clients and if I didn't know that well at the beginning of the home buying or selling process, I sure know them quite well at the end and often become life long friends with my clients!

With that being said, not every agent to client relationship meshes well and that's ok! Maybe you just work better with another agent's personality for whatever reason. You as the consumer should always do your research before you choose an agent. Here are some helpful questions to ask as you interview potential buyer or listing agents:

 

How often and when are you available?

I try to be clear up front on my availability and work/contact hours.

Do you have a list of referrals?

I know I can provide a list of past clients to reach out to for a potential new client to get feedback on from their experience.

How long have you been an agent?

Although I have been licensed since 2018 and feel confident saying that, I never want someone to think a newly licensed agent isn't capable of doing a great job. When I started I was fortunate to have a great surrounding of seasoned agents to guide me when needed.

How will you help me prepare my home to sell?

Although nobody has asked me this question specifically, this is my favorite part of prepping for a listing.  I enjoy walking through the home with my sellers and putting together a plan of action to get their home in tip top shape. I greatly appreciate when sellers listen to my advice. At the end of the day we both want your home to sell at it's highest and best price!

How do you plan to market my home?

One of the biggest reasons you hire a Realtor® is for their professional marketing. You should always ask an agent when interviewing for listing your home what their plan is to market your home.

How do your fees work?

Obviously everyone wants to know what the fees are. This is best to sit down and discuss and I go through through the numbers thoroughly with my clients.

What's the process look like from start to finish when purchasing or selling a home?

I thoroughly walk through the process and rough timelines of the home buying or selling process with my clients before we get into the thick of it!
